lilac look & 'Zoya Week'- Day 1!

hey guys,
two posts in one today!
First off, last night I got the idea (also thanks to Kaki) to maybe try to pair some looks with some mail posts.
SO, this next look was inspired by my last post.

*outside, shade

*inside, with flash

swatches! (all urban decay)
'Ransom', 'Zephyr', & 'Gunmetal'

I didn't have a shade that was the same color as the NOPI, so I decide to make my own. I blended 'Ransom' (a rich, shimmery purple) with 'Zephyr' (white with slight shimmer, mostly matte) and voila! I achieved something along those lines... so it was good enough for me. I then used a bit of 'Ransom' & 'Gunmetal' on the brow bone.
:D

Now on to part 2 of the post...

I realized that I've got quite a few Zoyas from recent promotions that I never got around to swatching... WTF.
So, i'm dedicating this week to all my little seemingly forgotten Zoya beauties :)))

For day 1 I have 'Kimmy'
*sunlight

Zoya describes 'Kimmy' as "gleaming metallic candy apple red brightened by gold sparkle". This little number really is a fire-engine red that has UBER spark-taculous appeal.  It's fantastic.

Here I tried to capture some of the gold (because there's actually quite a lot of it), but it didn't capture as much as I'd like. The red looks more orange here, too, since it's under a fluorescent light.

This is definitely my favorite red EVER. In any kind of light, it sparkles like crazy & it's so, so gorgeous.

What do you guys think?
What's your favorite red?
Thanks for reading!

a 'Tainted' Valentine's Day look (pic heavy)

Happy (or rather, boo  on) Monday!
My poor munchkin is teething and fussing up a storm,
but she finally fell asleep for me long enough to post :p

So I made this little look with Valentine's Day in mind obviously, but I also just wanted an excuse to use my new glitter eyeliner :)

* dim bathroom lighting

* fluorescent lighting

* straight on shot

* i know it's blurry, but I wanted you to see this angle nevertheless

Swatches!
From L to R:
Urban Decay's 'Vanilla' on the brow line
Lime Crime's 'Mirror Mirror' on the inner corners
'UD's 'Tainted' also on the inner corners
UD's 'Gunmetal' on the lid crease
UD's 'Blackout' on the outer corners

I used Covergirl's 'Line Exact' liquid precision eyeliner in 'very black',
 then used Urban Decay's Heavy Metal glitter eyeliner in Groupie', which is a fantastic, rosy pink color.

I actually really liked the way this turned out. It'll be a great nighttime look, and the glitter eyeliner is just fabulous. It adds that extra bit of spice that the look needs.

What do you guys think?!
Let me know!
:D

1/7/12

wintery look

Hey guys :)
I know it's been awhile since I posted any make-up looks, but I've been in my glasses for the past few weeks (waiting for my contacts to come in), & i couldn't see squat without them on (and i obviously had to take them off to do eye make-up)... needless to say, i've had a few boring weeks as far as make-up is concerned. However, my contacts came in yesterday so I can finally put up some new stuff.

This particular look was created on a wing & a prayer :P
 I literally just randomly picked 3 shades from
Urban Decay's Mariposa Palette & hoped they'd work together. In the end, I came up with what reminds me of a winter-ish look.

* taken indoors in fluorescent light

Okay, so the three shades I chose to work with were 'Gunmetal', 'Money', & 'Haight' (see here for swatches). I used 'Money' on the inner parts of my eye & the corners. Then on the outer part I used 'Haight'; on the outer corners & in the crease I used 'Gunmetal'... and I basically just blended it all until I achieved something I liked. I DID use a bit of 'Blackout' from the 15th Anniversary palette on the outer corners, too, just to complete the look a bit.
 Just to complete the wintery-y effect, I would have liked using some silvery, glitter eyeliner and posssssibly frosting the tips of my eyelashes a bit, but I didn't own the eyeliner and didn't think about frosting until after I'd taken these pictures (& by that time my daughter had woken up from her nap and any future adjustments to the look could be forgotten).

Anyway, here's my first look for 2012 and the first with my new palette! :)
Feedback is welcome!
